Holy Man
A Novel
A rusty preacher is forced back into the world after a series of biblically themed crimes plague his small Montana community.
Part Western, part mystery, part spiritual “concept album,” Holy Man tackles the stronghold of despair that grips the throats of those who’ve lost more than they can bear. Trudging through the muddiness of familial tension and grief, this work-in-progress was originally written as a television mini-series before Michael decided it was better suited for a novel. The story addresses the personal conflicts of a weary Montana family against the backdrop of Ten Commandment-inspired horrors that ensue across their small town.
Taking primary inspiration from the contemporary Western setting of Longmire, the heaviness of the spiritual crime thriller Millennium, the gravitas of Johnny Cash’s American Recordings, and the biblical killings that mark David Fincher’s Se7en, Holy Man explores issues of faith along the pastoral backdrop of the American West.
